After the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008,Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal 30,who was arrested on June 21 by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police,met Bhatkal brothers and Jaish-e-Mohammad JeM leaders at a house in Karachi to discuss their plan to provide training to a new module of Indian Mujahideen IM,Adil alias Ajmal,a Pakistani trained at that camp,has told the police.
Ajmal disclosed that in 2009,Jundal reportedly trained 90 men at Lashkar-e-Toibas LeT Bhawalpur training camp in the Punjab province of Pakistan,many of them later joined the IM. Ajmal,41,was arrested by the Special Cell in January this year.
Zabiuddin showed the clips of 2002 Gujarat riots,the Iraq war,the Afghanistan war and the USA invasion in Muslim areas to motivate the new recruits to join IM, the disclosure statement of Ajmal reads,according to the police. Ajmal had come to India on a fake passport and was arrested from Madhubani in Bihar.
He in his statement to the police,which is now part of the judicial records,said that he met Jundal at the Bhawalpur camp along with another Lashkar leader,Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi,and Jaish commander Abdul Rauf,brother of Maulana Masood Azhar.
While seeking Ansaris remand,the Delhi Police said that he was one of the main LeT operatives and had recently joined hands with IM to train new recruits. After the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008,this was the first time that the Special Cell had got anything on record against him.
In his statement Ajmal said,During day time at the camp Bhawalpur we were trained to handle weapons and make bombs and in the evening we used to attend taqreer speech at the mosque. Among those who used to give us taqreer were Syed Zabiuddin aged around 30 years and height 54 who was associated with LeT and used to come with his commander Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi. Zabiuddun belonged to Maharashtra and he told us that he was involved in many terrorist activities there.
Zabiuddin asked the recruits to read namaaz five times a day and be ready to sacrifice self. At Bhawalpur he showed us films on Gujarat riots,the crime committed on Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan by the US Army. It was during this time I came to know that Zabiuddin was also working for the IM, Ajmal said in his statement.
The Delhi Police primarily made this statement as a basis to seek a non-bailable warrant against Ansari from a city court on June 2 this year leading to his arrest on June 21 at the IGI Airport.
