Attacked in absence
The assemblys monsoon session, which ended last week, carried out all its business in the absence of any of the opposition legislators, since all of them had been suspended by the Speaker for unparliamentary behaviour. The treasury benches slammed former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his sons Ajay and Abhay Chautala, with no one from the INLD to defend their leaders. The ruling party passed a resolution on seeking legal opinion on action to be taken against the Chautalas and the office-bearers of their trusts for alleged corruption.
Kanda out and active
Gopal Kanda, who is facing trial for abetment to the suicide of one of his employees,Geetika Sharma, was released on interim bail for a month so that he could attend the monsoon session. For a four-day session,he got 30 days bail and has been meeting party workers in his constituency in Sirsa. In the assembly,he took the lead in ridiculing the Chautalas, his one-time mentors, saying they were finished and would never get out of jail, let alone return to the assembly.
