The Telangana Bill may not be taken up for discussion at all in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly even as the deadline set by President Pranab Mukherjee to send the Bill back with views of the Assembly is January 23. On Friday,the House was adjourned within an hour after MLAs from Coastal and Rayalaseema districts repeatedly disrupted the proceedings and it became apparent that the Seemandhra MLAs will not allow a discussion on the Bill. The House is scheduled to be in session till January 10 and again from January 16 to January 23 specially to discuss the Bill. However,Seemandhra MLAs have resolved not to allow the discussion or debate to be taken up in the House.
On Friday,the House saw acrimonious exchanges between Seemandhra and Telangana MLAs in the backdrop of Telangana Minister B Sridhar Babus resignation after being divested of Legislative Affairs portfolio on December 31. While the CM has not yet accepted Babus resignation,the issue weighed heavily upon the Assembly proceedings. Sridhar Babu and other Telangana Ministers and MLAs accused the CM and Seemandhra MLAs of stooping low to stall a discussion on Telangana Bill.
Meanwhile,the YSR Congress partys call for bandh on Friday in opposition to state bifurcation affected life in Coastal and Rayalaseema districts. In Guntur,Vishakapatnam,Krishna,Prakasham,Kurnool,Chittoor,the strike imposed since morning was complete. Public transport was hit as buses did not ply the streets. Supporters of YSRCP and other supporters of the Samakiyandhra cause participated in the bandh.
