American in Kanha tiger reserve with no permit detained, hospitalised

The 50-year-old from California was inside the core area with a torch tied to her head around 4.30 am,much before the park opens for tourists.

An American woman was detained after she was found inside the Kanha National Park in suspicious circumstances early Saturday.

The 50-year-old from California was inside the core area with a torch tied to her head around 4.30 am,much before the park opens for tourists.

“She did not satisfactorily answer what she was doing there so early and without permit,’’ park director J S Chouhan told The Sunday Express over phone.

The woman refused to let authorities check her belongings like camera, saying her personal accessories were out of bounds for them. She got agitated when the park officials tried to pacify her. “She appeared to be under the influence of some medicine and had to be admitted to a hospital after a court refused to give her custody to the forest authorities,” the director said.

She has been booked under Sections 27 and 35 of the Wildlife Protection Act for unauthorised entry.

Just after the crack of dawn, guards found her moving suspiciously. She first claimed that she had come there looking for a vehicle to move inside the park.
