Amid growing differences between Chiranjeevi, who had merged his Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress, and senior Congress leaders from the state, the actor-turned-politician on Wednesday called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and was said to have given her a report about the reasons for the partys rout in the recent Assembly bypolls.
Emerging from the meeting at 10,Janpath,Chiranjeevi attributed the YSR Congresss victory in the bypolls to sympathy factor, even as he added that the Congress could have done better. Congress sources said that he had complained to the Congress high command about the attitude of the state Congress leadership, which led to the partys debacle in the bypolls.
Although the Congress had lost the Tirupati Assembly seat which was previously held by Chiranjeevi, the party won two seats in coastal Andhra region dominated by members of Kapu community to which he belongs.
Miffed with a section of state Congress leaders,Chiranjeevi had recently stated that if the same sorry state of affairs continues in Andhra Pradesh, target 2014 will become unrealistic. While Chiranjeevi is expected to get a berth in the Union Council of Ministers in the next round of Cabinet reshuffle, party sources said that he is upset about his party supporters not getting adequate representation in the state government.
