Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda was on Thursday released on a temporary bail of three weeks, his first taste of freedom in over three years and five months of incarceration.
Koda had been granted temporary bail on Tuesday by the Jharkhand High Court. The court was acting on a plea by the current Singhbhum representative in the Lok Sabha to take care of his ailing mother, admitted to a Ranchi hospital.
Koda was not released on Wednesday from the Birsa Munda Central jail here as his documentation was not ready. A small band of about 30 followers from his home constituency of Jagannathpur represented by wife Geeta Koda in the currently suspended legislative assembly reached Ranchi on Wednesday and stayed overnight to welcome him.
My first priority is to visit my mother. I will then go to my constituency, where development work has suffered due to my absence. My lawyers will continue to look into my cases; I have faith in the judicial system, he said.
There are four pending cases against Koda, who was taken into judicial custody on November 30,2009.
