The family of five persons arrested for arson at Rita Bahuguna Joshis residence claimed they were framed in the case. All five were caught by the police long before the incident for involvement in minor brawls,they said.
Neighbours Guddu Yadav,Shiv Kumar Singh and Inder Singh were allegedly held by Cantt police for being involved in a petty dispute on Wednesday afternoon,while Zameer Khan and Susarjid Kumar were arrested after a scuffle in Hussainganj area in the evening.
Zameer was due to get engaged on Saturday,so why would he get involved in arson? asks his mother Shahjahan Khan. He told me on the phone on Wednesday afternoon that he had to go to Dehradun for official work.
Zameers friend Ahmed Khan says,On Wednesday evening,I came to know that Zameer had got involved in a brawl with a passerby over some petty matter and both had been taken to the Hussainganj police station. When I went there,I was told Zameer had been held for a minor offence and could be bailed out the next day. Ahmed added: On Thursday afternoon,when I asked the lawyer to bail out Zameer,I was told he had been held for arson and so could not be bailed out so easily.
Zameers uncle Laiq Khan said the person with whom Zameer had a quarrel,Susarjid Kumar of Unnao,too had been booked in the case. The other three are residents of Neelmatha area under Cantt police circle. Their neighbour Sanjay Virodhi said the police caught them on Wednesday afternoon after a fight over drainage water spilling on the road.
However,Husainganj Inspector B R Saroj said they had arrested all five accused from the spot of arson. When the police team reached the spot on Wednesday night,they were trying to escape but we nabbed them, he added.
