A nine-year-old NRI girl was allegedly molested in the high-security Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose international airport early on Tuesday allegedly by a drunk Air India ground staff. The girl was waiting in the departure area with her mother and six-month-old sister for a Lufthansa flight to Boston when the incident took place.
The accused staff,Ahmed Reza and his accomplice Vinay Sahni,were arrested. R Srinivasan,director,NSC Bose airport,said: It is a very unfortunate incident. This has never happened before in this airport. AI later suspended both. The two accused were working as loaders at the NSC Bose airport. We have suspended them immediately and we will ensure that they do not work with us in future, said a spokesperson for Air India.
According to the police,the NRI family was in Kolkata on a holiday. They were to board the Lufthansa flight around 1.30 am. They were waiting in the departure area when the incident happened. Raza approached the victim,who was standing some distance away from her mother. He told the child that he wanted to frisk her for security check. Sahni,another loader,was with Reza.
Reza then started molesting the girl,who started crying,drawing the attention of her mother. The victims mother raised an alarm following which other passengers and CISF jawans rushed to the spot. Reza and Sahni tried to flee but were caught.
Later,relatives of the victim lodged a complaint with the airport police station. The accused were produced at Barrackpore court which granted them bail.
