8 held for impersonation in pre-medical test in MP

More than a dozen cases of impersonation came to light in the pre-medical test held across Madhya Pradesh.

More than a dozen cases of impersonation came to light in the pre-medical test PMT held across Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

Professional Examination Board PEB,which conducted the examination at 71 centres in 21 cities, had kept an eye on as many as 145 suspects but most of them did not turn up.

Satyendra Varma, caught from Indore, told the police that he had accepted Rs 4 lakh to appear in place of Ashish Yadav. The impersonator hails from Kanpur and had accepted Rs 2,000 in advance.

The police have arrested eight candidates so far and more arrests are likely in the next few days.

The board had also identified 15 meritorious students, some of them toppers from previous years, because they had also applied for the current examination.

We allowed all students who had scored well previously to take the examination on Sunday because its possible they did not get the college of their choice, PEBs Examination Controller Pankaj Trivedi told The Indian Express.

Biometric technology was used for the first time and all students who took the examination on Sunday were made to give their thumb impressions, and their photographs were taken. The inputs will be matched at the time of counselling.

One of the modus operandi used by gangs in the past was to make previous toppers take the examination and later replace their photographs with candidates seeking admission.

The 15 toppers, who chose to appear in Sundays examination, will be asked to explain the reason for doing so,but their identities will be revealed only if some irregularities are found.
