US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is set to exchange notes on enhancing enforcement,surveillance,infrastructure protection,hostage crisis,IED detection,counterfeit currency and counter-terrorism strategies with the police chiefs of eight Indian cities in Mumbai next Tuesday.
Napolitano,who arrives on a four-day visit to India on May 24,will lay the foundation for a bilateral homeland security dialogue with Home Minister P Chidambaram. The dialogue envisages an annual meeting between the two principals,biennial meeting between the two home secretaries and regular interaction among the executive sub-groups.
While the names of those who will attend the Mumbai meeting is yet to be finalised,Mumbai,Delhi,Kolkata,Chennai,Bengaluru,Pune,Ahmedabad and Hyderabad will be represented by their respective police commissioners or state DGPs.
The other item on the agenda is capacity building in forensics that goes beyond routine chemical and DNA analysis. Under the bilateral mechanism,Indian police officers will be sent for specialised forensic courses in the US.
