Seven CRPF,CoBRA and Jharkhand policemen were injured in an encounter with Maoists in the forests of Saniya village in Latehar district on Monday.
They were airlifted and admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Ranchi. One is critical but the rest have received minor injuries, the hospitals superintendent,P D Singh,said.
This is the second encounter in Latehar since April 5,when CoBRA personnel Satya Prakash Jaiswal were killed and policeman Sanjay Paswan injured in a three-hour-long gunbattle. The police had claimed that six Maoists were also killed,but the rebels had denied it.
Asked whether any of the rebels was killed in Mondays gunbattle,Garhwa SP Michael Raj said: We dont have specific inputs about it.
IG,Operations,S N Pradhan,claimed that the Maoists used women and children as human shields to flee from the encounter.
The encounters,sources said,are part of the ongoing operation against Maoists in Palamau area.
One arrested in Gadchiroli blast case
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Police have arrested a villager from Pakenjur near Kanker in Chhattisgarh,suspected to be the supplier of the battery that was used in the landmine that killed 12 CRPF personnel on March 26. He has claimed that he was approached by two strangers on March 15,who asked him to show the battery of his tractor and asked him to get a similar one and deposit it at a tea shop in Gadchiroli. He claimed that he got an advance payment for the job.
