Around 57.25 per cent voters cast their ballot in the third phase of polling held in 56 Assembly seats in 10 districts of UP on Wednesday. The maximum polling was reported from Naxal-affected districts including Chandauli (62.5 per cent),Mirzapur (62.4 per cent) and Sonbhadra (58.25 per cent).
The polling in the third phase was higher than the second phase (55.6 per cent).
In the districts,the poll percentage was 59.20 per cent in Sultanpur,57.67 per cent in Kaushambi,57 per cent in Varanasi,56.92 per cent in Allahabad,56.44 per cent in Jaunpur,56 per cent in Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar and 55.67 per cent in Sant Ravidas Nagar.
In the Assembly constituencies,maximum polling was reported from Handia (68 per cent),Sakaldiha (67 per cent),Marihan (67 per cent) and Pratappur (65 per cent) in Allahabad.
The lowest polling was reported from Allahabad South (48 per cent) and Allahabad North (48 per cent). UP Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said the minimum polling in the 2007 elections was reported from Allahabad North (24 per cent).
The districts that went to polls today have been known for low voter turnout in the past elections. The turnout increased in all the districts today, he said. The polling today was incident-free.
