The father of three-year-old girl Angel Sharma whose body was found floating in the sea on Thursday has said he had nothing to do with the murder for which police had named him as the prime suspect, who was absconding.
Speaking to The Indian Express over phone on Friday,Angels father,Rajeev Sharma, claimed,he had just returned from UP. Angel had gone missing from her house where she was living with her mother Suzan, who has separted from Sharma.
A post-mortem revealed Angel had been raped and strangled. The police named Sharma,30,as the main suspect after Suzan,23,told them about a conversation with him. Suzan lives with her second husband Ashok Jadhav. A few days ago,she called up Sharma and asked him if he wanted custody of their daughter. She told him she would sign the requisite papers. He told her to wait for two days. Exactly two days later, the girl was found dead, Assistant Commissioner of Police Iqbal Shaikh had said on Thursday.
On Friday,Shaikh said that while police have not ruled out Sharmas involvement, there were other suspects as well. While the father is still a suspect, there are others under the scanner. Many statements have been recorded. We are probing thoroughly, said Shaikh.
Sharma, however, claimed he was not in the city when the murder took place and, therefore, could not have been the killer. I had gone to my native place in UP on Tuesday for a wedding. I came to Mumbai on Friday evening and I was told my daughter has been killed. I have nothing to do with this case and have not hurt my daughter, Sharma said.
On Friday,Suzan also said she did not think Rajeev was the killer.
I do not think he killed my daughter. Police have also questioned Ashok in connection with the case. They took his statement and asked him where he was at the time of the murder. The police have also questioned my father, she said.
