2G case: Kanimozhi moves petition in apex court

DMK leader denies association with former telecom minister A Raja.

Denying association with former telecom minister A Raja,DMK leader Kanimozhi Wednesday petitioned the Supreme Court to quash the 2G spectrum allocation corruption charges against her.

Kanimozhi,44,who was released on bail in November 2011 after six months in jail, told the court in a petition that the allegation that she had a strong association with co-accused Raja was “mischievous and misleading”.

There was no evidence, she claimed,of her involvement,so continuing her trial would amount to abuse of the process of the court. She pleaded the court to intervene to secure the ends of justice since the criminal proceedings had been initiated “illegally and without jurisdiction”.

“It is relevant to point out that allegations made against the petitioner all pertain to financial transactions of Kalaignar TV Pvt Ltd between December 2008 and August 2009,that is,after over 18 months after the date of resignation of the petitioner as a director of the company,” Kanimozhi’s petition read.
