The police on Thursday arrested two youths for allegedly chopping off a 21-year-old Sikhs hair. Hundreds of Sikhs marched towards Avantipur on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway to protest against the hair-chopping incident. Senior police and civil administration officials assured the protesters of action against the culprits.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (South Kashmir) Shafqat Watali said: The complainant hails from Tral. He said that on Wednesday while he was on his way to office,he was stopped by a group of youth near Malanpora who forcibly chopped off his hair. We have picked up two suspects.
A delegation of Sikhs also met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The majority community in Kashmir has always respected the sentiments of the Sikh community and continue to do so, Abdullah told the delegation.
