11-yr-old killed in firing at pre-wedding celebrations

An 11-year-old boy died of a bullet wound at celebrations at a pre-wedding ceremony in this village,police said on Sunday.

An 11-year-old boy died of a bullet wound at celebrations at a pre-wedding ceremony in this village,police said on Sunday. DSP Narinderpal Singh said the incident took place Saturday night at the sangeet party organised by one Surinder Kumar for his daughter’s wedding.

The bride’s brother Vipin Kumar under the influence of the liquor began firing in the air from his father’s licenced 12-bore gun to mark the celebration. A guest at the party,Jasvir Singh,tried to snatch the gun from Vipin as he too wanted to fire,the police said. In a scuffle that followed,the gun went off and the stray bullet hit the boy,Gagandeep,on his thigh.

“The family claims GTB hospital refused to admit the boy,who was then taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the DSP said. The police have booked three people Surinder Kumar,his son Vipin Kumar and Jasvir Singh in the case but no arrests have been made so far.
