Less than a month after the Maoist-police encounter in Malkangiri,at least 11 Maoists from the cut-off area,including a woman cadre,surrendered before the police there on Tuesday. Malkangiri SP Akhileshwar Singh said the Maoists against whom charges of murder,loot and arson are pending left their camps fearing they might be killed in a police encounter. At least seven of them belonged to the cut-off area,which was the area most affected until a while ago. They were also fed-up will the ill treatment meted out by a cadre from Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, he said. Ten of the 11 surrendered Maoists were militia members while the only woman member was a member of cultural troupe Jana Natya Dalam.
