10 dead in rain,floods

Six,including four of a family,were killed in a wall collapse in Jagatsinghpur,while four others were swept away in floods in Ganjam.

Incessant rain over the past three days led to flooding in seven districts in Orissa,including cyclone-affected Ganjam,leaving 10 dead and lakhs marooned.

Six,including four of a family,were killed in a wall collapse in Jagatsinghpur,while four others were swept away in floods in Ganjam,Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra said. Last week,45 people died when cyclone Phailin hit Ganjam.

Mohapatra said 85,000 people have been evacuated so far. Three helicopters began rescue operations in Ganjam where rivers Rushikulya and Ghodahada were flowing above the danger mark.

Meanwhile,all trains on the Chennai-Howrah route were halted as water spilled onto the tracks.

The government Friday ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in flood-hit districts till Monday.Debabrata Mohanty
