In one of the biggest-ever hauls of psychotropic drugs and substances meant for sale in the US,Canada and other European countries,sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday arrested 10 people,including a US green card holder. They all were remanded in 14-day judicial custody later.
In simultaneous searches by the Delhi zonal unit of the DRI,which busted the international cartel,at various locations in Mumbai,Delhi,Punjab and Himachal Pradesh over the last weekend,the agency also seized foreign currency,Indian currency and a pistol from the possession of the accused believed to have been in the illegal trade for the past two years.
We have arrested 10 persons and investigations are still on, said Additional Director General of DRI,Delhi Zone,Rakesh Sharma.
The sleuths pegged the value of the drugs and currency at Rs 22 crore.
The seized drugs,including ketamine,used to be couriered and shipped in milk bags,glucose sachets and teabags. One of the drugs,popularly called party drug,was procured from a pharmaceutical factory,Ten Star Industries,at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. The investigators,who believe the factory was also engaged in manufacturing fake drugs of other companies,questioned the factory owner on Tuesday.
Among the accused are courier operators who used to send parcels of drugs concealed in other consignments through air cargo. Firdosh Mukaddam,a US green card holder,is alleged to be the key link to the international cartel.
