NASHIK, MAY 7: The State Government has not fulfilled its promise of bifurcating Nashik district to create a new Malegaon district, but is said to be considering the creation of two new talukas, Trimbakeshwar and Deola.

There have been demands from Trimbakeshwar, Deola, Manmad, Bhagur and Lasalgaon for the creation of seperate talukas for several years.

It is reliably learnt that the Government is considering the creation of Trimbakeshwar and Deola as seperate blocks in the district.

The proposed Trimbakeshwar taluka would cater to the needs of tribals in the western parts of the existing Nashik taluka and the northern parts of Igatpuri taluka. The tribals in this hilly region have remained neglected over the years. Trimbakeshwar is in Nashik tehsil but is attached to the Dahanu Lok Sabha constitueny and the Igatpuri Assembly constituency.

Deola is a town in Kalwan taluka and the hometown of State Health Minister Dr Daulatrao Aher. The new tehsil would cover the southern parts of Baglan taluka and eastern parts of Kalwan taluka. The new talukas are being created to improve local administration.

Meanwhile, the failure of the State Government in fulfilling its promise of creating Malegaon district on May 1 has invited the wrath of local leaders, including Shiv Sainiks from Malegaon, who are planning to revive agitations for their long-pending demand.

The Action Committee for Malegaon district has planned a series of agitations, while the local unit of the Shiv Sena, led by Sanjay Dusane, has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for scuttling the creation of Malegaon.

Sena chief Bal Thackeray and the then chief minister Manohar Joshi had assured the agitators of fulfilling their demand, in several public meetings. However, on May 1, the State Government created only two new districts of Hingoli (by bifurcating Parbhani) and Gondia (by bifurcating Bhandara district).
