MUMBAI, May 13: To perpetuate the memory of late deputy commissioner of police Deepak Jog, a memorial trust has been set up to assist families of deceased policemen in the state.

Explaining the trust’s objectives, retired Director General of Police (Maharashtra) Suryakant Jog, father of Deepak, said the trust is primarily meant for families of deceased policemen of Greater Mumbai and district police as well. Funds will be provided for education of their children and any other assistance required, added Jog.

“Funds will be made available to bereaved families before government welfare is made available. There are delays in government assistance due to bureaucratic wrangling,” Jog pointed out. The trust also proposes to acclaim excellence in the field of investigations in Mumbai, in the field of crime reporting by crime reporters and by police sub-inspector trainees at the Police Training Academy, Nashik. A committee is being formed to make these selections and recommendations annually, claimed joint commissioner, crime, Ranjit Singh Sharma.
