Mumbai, November 12 : S UNIL Machhar from Mumbai emerged champions in the Tolani National Masters Bridge Tournament, outplaying National champions India Blues in the final at the Andheri Sports Complex here on Sunday.

India Blues were trailing 74 IMPs at the end of the first session of two rounds. They lost the first round of 16 boards 11-55 and the second round 25-55. They lost the third narrowly by just one IMP, but it was too late for a fightback then and India Blues conceded defeat.

Machhar’s won Rs 40,000 for their victory, while India Blues took home Rs 20,000. The two losing semi-finalists, Aral and Railways A had to be content with Rs 10,000 each.

Final scores: Sunil Machhar (Sunil Machhar, Anil Padhye, AJ Mehta, Jitu Solani, Kalpana Misra, Anal Shah) 110 bt India Blues (Ashok Ruia, JM Shah, B Prabhaker, KV Krishnamurthy, DA Roy) 36 conceded.

Jindal boy’s dominate

Ritesh Sharma was credited with the only upset of the day, getting the better of second seed Siddharth Samantaray in the second round of the boy’s under-15 category. Sharma won 9-4, 9-6, 2-9, 6-9, 9-4.
