TATA Motors and Sujanil registered victories in the ABIL Corporate Cricket Champions Cup 2008, which was held at the Deccan Gymkhana cricket ground over the weekend.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Venkys notched up a respectable total of 157 runs in 20 overs. With an unbeaten century scored in the last mach, Vivek Deshmukh started from where he had left off. He struck the ball well and pierced the gaps with ease. Deshmukh scored an unbeaten 78 runs from just 59 deliveries with four boundaries and one six. He was well supported by Vikas Ghule who contributed with a crucial 25 runs off 23 deliveries.
In reply, Tata Motors put in a brilliant performance with each batsmen playing his part in the victory. Tata Motors opener Milind Gunjal scored a solid 27 runs off 24 deliveries with three boundaries and one six. Their middle-order batsmen Bhushan Suryavanshi (25 runs off 22 balls, 2 boundaries and one six) Mahesh More (22 runs off 24 balls, three fours) and Avinash Tikone (33 runs off 21 balls, 4 boundaries and 1 six) also made important contributions in their quest to victory. Snehal Mane from Tata Motors took the responsibility of finishing the match with an unbeaten 29 runs off 14 deliveries with three hits to the fence and two sixes. Vivek Deshmukh was declared the man of the match.
In the second match of the day, Sujanil registered its third consecutive victory by defeating Bajaj Auto by 102 runs. Sujanil piled up 175 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. But Rahul Sambhus from Sujanil played an anchor role, scoring 41 runs off 34 deliveries with five fours and one six. Jagdish Varde also played an important knock of 43 runs off 21 deliveries with eight boundaries and one six. Vikram Deshmukh propelled the Sujanil innings by scoring a quick fire 23 runs off 11 deliveries with two hits to the fence. S Sellapnadi (2 wickets for 51 runs), Yogesh Joshi (2 wickets for 22 runs) and Sunil Divekar (2 wickets for 43 runs) were the pick of bowlers from Bajaj Auto. In reply, Bajaj Auto lost wickets in quick succession losing their grip on the game. Sunil Divekar was the only batsman from Bajaj Auto who put up a formidable fight scoring 22 runs off 21 deliveries with 4 hits to the fence. Ashish Desai (3 wickets for 9 runs) and Jagdish Varde (2 wickets for 8 runs) were the strike bowlers for Sujanil.
