GANGTOK, August 24: Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will visit Sikkim from October 21 to 24, according to the Chief Minister’s secretary P T Gyamtso. However, an official release on Saturday said the religious leader would have his Sikkim trip from September 21 to 24. Gyamtso on Sunday confirmed that the Dalai Lama would reach Namchi in the south district on October 21, and visit Rabongla and some other places. He would lay the foundation stone of the 80-feet high statue of Guru Rimpoche Padmasambhava at Samdupche in Namchi on October 22. Later in the evening he would attend the tsog bum in a monastery there before leaving for Gangtok, Gyamtso said.

Large quantity of explosives seized

JAIPUR: A large quantity of explosives was seized from a house in Makarana town in Nagaur district during a raid by police.One person has been arrested in this connection, police said here on Sunday. The seizure of the illegal explosives followed a tip off to the police on Saturday. The seized material included 1,000 detonators, 4,500-feet long fuse wire, 75 kg gelatin and 20 electric detonators, the police said. A case has been registered under the Explosive Act.

Two NLFT militants held

AGARTALA: Two militants belonging to the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were arrested on Saturday from the remote Ranbabupara area under Kalyanpur police station in west Tripura district. Acting on a tip off, CRPF jawans raided the village Rambabupara and arrested the militants, police said on Sunday. They were involved in several crimes including killing, abduction and burning houses in the area.

PORBANDAR: As India celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Independence, two special trains with exhibits reflecting the greatness of the nation are running across the country with a view to fostering the message of national integration. The special exhibition trains called “Golden Jubilee Exhibition on Rails” were inaugurated by the Railway Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, recently at Porbandar and Kanyakumari respectively.

2 ULFA militants killed in encounter

GUWAHATI: Two hard-core ULFA militants were killed and an army jawan was injured in an encounter in upper Assam’s Sibsagar district on Saturday night. Official sources said here that the encounter took place at Sepan village where the army was patrolling. The injured army jawan was shifted to the hospital.
