NEW DELHI, June 8: The first-ever football philately exhibition, tracing the origins of football until the present days, will be organised here coinciding with the opening of the World Cup in France.

The exhibition which will be inaugurated by Brazilian ambassador Mr LF Demacedo Soares at a local hotel on Wednesday, will also mark the beginning of a month-long festival of “soccer bites” fusing “soccer and cuisine”, according to Soni Shrivastav, an official of the Le Meridien hotel which is organising the festival.

“We are putting the World Cup soccer on a platter for 33 exciting days of fiesta which fuse soccer with cuisine to celebrate the spirit of soccer in a special soccer delight menu,” she said.

She added the interiors of a portion of the hotel would be converted into mini soccer stadia recreating the progress of the games. Cutouts and posters of soccer superstars would be framed on the walls. Unique soccer cocktails and snacks have been created as a tribute to the event.

At least 32 gourmet dishes have been created representing each participating country.

Also, an internet kiosk is being put up in the hotel to facilitate sending of complementary greetings to the playing teams.

A soccer quiz has been specially designed. The final of the quiz will be held on July 12 coinciding with the closing ceremony of the World Cup.
