Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and WBPCC president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi will hold talks with Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Monday regarding the Singur imbroglio. Dasmunsi, who addressed a rally at Sahanapara near Tata Motors factory in Singur on Sunday, accused the state Government of not providing a proper compensation package to the farmers. He said that he will also hold talks with the Tatas on the issue and advised the company to show more patience regarding the project.
“Is it a child’s play to suddenly abandon the project? One thousand acres have been acquired and even if the land is returned, it will not be cultivable for a long time,” he said.
Dasmunsi added that an all-party meeting should be called to discuss the impasse and an attempt should be made to find a solution on the basis of three points — land for land, adequate compensation, and employment. “We must find a solution to the problem and it’s time we take an initiative. I will meet Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi on Monday and discuss the matter with him. The issuer has been politicised,” he said, addressing around 3,000 people, mostly outsiders.
Reacting to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee terming the Opposition traitors, he said, “It is the state Government that has breached the trust of the people and the farmers of Singur. The compensation package offered to the farmers is not adequate.”
He also urged the agitators and farmers to show restraint and reasoning. “Opposing every development work is not right.”
He added that farmers should be provided with alternative land outside the plant area. “Some land can be provided from inside the plant. The rest can be outside. The farmers should have alternative land as a part of their compensation,” he said.
