
MUMBAI, December 12: A superb all-around performance by Rohit Salunke helped Shardashram English beat Cardinal Garcias by 193 runs to enter the quarter-finals of the Giles Shield Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament, sponsored by ThumsUp at Azad Maidan here today.
Salunke scored 129 in his side’s total of 301. He was involved in a 114-run partnership for the second wicket with Rahul Raipally (58). He then went on to capture four wickets for 31 runs to restrict their rivals to 108. The other batsman to reach the three-figure mark was Swapnil Tambe of Raja Shivaji against St Xavier’s Parle. He put on 124 runs for the fourth wicket with Aditya Kale and helped his side score 390 for six in their stipulated overs (70). Tambe’s knock of 146 was studded with 16 fours while Kale hit five boundaries in his 61.
In a low scoring match, St Mary’s (ISC) bt G D Somani by 48 runs, thanks to fine medium pace bowling by Ankit Zaveri, who took seven wickets for 24 runs in his 14 overs, out of which seven were maidens.
