Singer No 1

Govinda seems to be taking his `Entertainer No 1′ tag very seriously. Now, this dancing sensation has truly become a complete all-rounder and added another feather to his already colourful cap. He has come out with his first pop album — simply titled Govinda — in association with HMV. All the songs have been penned and composed by his sister Kamini Khanna, while Kunal Kohli has directed some real funky videos for this `total time-pass’ collection.

The album was released with a simple function at The Club in Juhu last Thursday. Predictably, everything moved precisely two hours behind schedule. The chief guest for the do was Sridevi (flanked by hubby Boney Kapoor, of course). She looked stunning in a simple black outfit and was all praise for Govinda’s screen-appeal. And as soon as the job of releasing the album was done, the much-in-love couple walked off in a hurry.

The star of the evening — also dressed in a sober black suit — however stayed on to see the last guest off.He even gave a live performance which was greeted with spontaneous taalis and seetis. Apart from the Govinda clan, the only ones to grace this low-key do were music video director Kunal and wife Raveena, HMV’s Harish Dayani and model Aditi Govitrikar (who’s Govinda’s leading lady for the videos).

Film notes

The next evening HMV moved to Sun N’ Sand for the audio release of the Madhuri Dixit-Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan starrer Aarzoo. The high point of the evening was supposed to be an impromptu press-conference by Madame Dixit to clarify her strange statement about `Nepal being a part of India’. Yet again, in true filmi style, the lady walked in two hours late — with secretary Rakesh Nath in tow. Dressed in a lemon green coat and black trousers, she looked distinctly uncomfortable speaking about her faux pas. But she graciously apologised for what she claims was "a slip-of-the-tongue", while the Aarzoo team did their best to shield her from awkward questions.Apart from director Lawrence D’Souza, who’s been out of circulation for a long, long time, music director Anu Malik — who described his own score as `fabulous’ — singers Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Sonu Nigam, lyricist Anand Bakshi and Amrish Puri graced the occasion. Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, however, were conspicuous by their absence. Wonder what kept them away, considering this film is crucial to both stars?

And finally…

Have you read the latest Savvy. Well this issue is certainly worth a read. Their cover story gives you the inside scoop on the dirty goings-on in the glamour world as model Achla Sachdev pours her heart out. In a candid interview, she talks about her life in great detail. And even about her much publicised affair with Andrew Carnegie. He cheated on Achla with her then close friend veejay Suchitra Pillai. And she has come out and called Suchitra "a boyfriend snatcher". Fine. That might be true but why hasn’t Andrew been apportioned more blame. Afterall, he was the one who couldn’t keep the commitment. Not Suchi. Why are women so hard on other women when the men invariably are at fault. Now all we need is Suchitra in the next issue of Savvy to hit back and say that "Achla could not keep Andrew happy." War has officially been declared.
