Interpol issued Red Corner notices against alleged kidney transplant kingpin Amit Kumar and his brother.

Interpol on Friday issued Red Corner notices against alleged kidney transplant kingpin Amit Kumar and his brother, who are suspected to have fled to Canada.

“Kumar (40) and Jeevan Rawat (36) are both subject of national arrest warrants for illegally transplanting kidneys, cheating and criminal conspiracy,” the Interpol warrants, issued following request from the CBI, said.

CBI informed the Interpol that the two doctors had allegedly conducted “forced” kidney operations on nearly 500 people during last eight years and the organs were transplanted on patients, including foreigners.

Six properties of Amit in Gurgaon, in the outskirts of the national capital, and eight bank accounts have been sealed by the Haryana Police.

The Police have arrested ten people so far in this connection including Amit’s close associate Dr Upendra, a nurse from government-run Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, two cooks of the kingpin, the driver of the arrested associate and a quack Jagdish.

Several doctors, nurses and other para-medic staff have been questioned to ascertain the extent of the network illegally set up by Amit and his associates.

The unscrupulous organ trade came to fore when Haryana police discovered a three-storeyed house in Gurgaon being surreptitiously used for kidney operations.

Dubbed as Kidney kingpin and “Dr Horror”, Amit is said to be a frequent visitor to Canada where his family is believed to be residing.

A spokesperson of Canadian Police said it was liaising with its Indian counterparts to help track down the culprits.
