Describing the Congress demand for an inquiry against former Union Minister Ananth Kumar for his alleged role in the HUDCO irregularities as absurd, the BJP said here today that the ruling party was betraying its lack of a basic understanding of legal procedures.

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said in reply to questions that ‘‘it is absurd to seek an inquiry when the CVC report on the matter is already with the Supreme Court.’’

He said the whole matter was sub-judice and the Congress should wait for the SC verdict. He said the demand poorly reflected on the Congress, which would do better to look at its own track-record. ‘‘It has no moral right to speak against others when it is involved in the oil-for-food and Bofors scandals,’’ he said.
