India opened their account on the second day of the 11th South Asian Games when the women’s cycling team earned a gold,while the men’s hockey team beat an inexperienced Nepal side 21-0 in a completely lopsided match.

The Indian squash duo of Sandip Jangra and Gaurav Nandrajog also assured at least one medal by advancing into the semi-final stage. Jangra will take on Pakistan’s world No 19 Aamir Atlas Khan,while Nandrajog will face Farhan Mahboob on Sunday.

The Indian cycling team dominated from the start and clocked 44 minutes 22.15 seconds.

In hockey,skipper Ajitesh Roy led from the front with five goals as the Indian team thrashed an inexperienced Nepal 21-0. Nepal were featuring in only their second international outing in 10 years,and the first time on artificial turf.

Yuvraj Walmiki and Mohammed Aamir Khan scored thrice each,while Pramod Kumar,Raghunath V and Hamza Mujtaba scored a brace each.
