The last time Heena Sidhu won an international medal was in Munich this January,Heenas last event as a junior. On Tuesday, the 20-year-old made a mark in the senior category too, winning the silver medal in Air Pistol with a score of 485.8 at the Beijing ISSF World Cup.
It was a close finish. The qualifying round was a bit tough but my final round score of 101.8 helped me, Sidhu said, speaking to The Indian Express over phone from Beijing. The transition from junior to the senior level is quite important and I hope this will give me confidence. At the Changwan World Cup (Korea),I hadnt been able to do so well but now Im fully fit and expect to perform well at the World Cups in Milan and Munich next month, said Sidhu, who lost to Hu Jan in the final. The Chinese scored 490.5 points.
Sidhu first hogged the limelight when she won the gold medal in the Hungary Open last year before fetching the top spot at the national championship in Kerala earlier this year. That game gave me much confidence. Harveen Srao has been consistent on the national circuit and it was good defeating her in the final, said Sidhu, who is coached by her father Rajbeer,a former national-level rifle shooter.
