We proved a point by reaching the finals, says Marsha

South Africa today kept their unbeaten run in the Olympics qualifiers intact, defeating Canada 4-1.

The South African women’s hockey were forced to play in the ongoing London Olympic qualifiers here despite being African champions and captain Marescia Marsha today said a place in Sunday’s final will sent out a strong message to their Olympic Committee.

World ranked 12th South Africa today kept their unbeaten run in the London Olympics qualifiers intact when they mauled Canada 4-1 in their last round-robin match to top the table with 13 points and seal their berth in the final of the women’s qualifier and Marsha said it proves their worth.

“We had already qualified for the London Olympics but our national association wanted us to go through the qualifiers here and so we had to compete against some very good teams and we are happy to be in the final. I think it will prove that we are capable of winning everywhere,” Marsha told reporters.

“Every team wants to do well here and are under pressure but yes,we too were under a bit of pressure after being asked to play in the qualifiers. We had a good preparation and we are hoping to win and qualify,” she added.

Asked whom South Africa would like to meet in the finals,Marsha said it doesn’t matter and they were only focusing on their strength.

“We have a lot of strength in our team and for us it doesn’t matter whom we meet in the final. All the teams are very tough,it is about producing results,so we are focusing on the job at hand,” she said.

“It would be a very different final, our game would be different regardless of whom we play. We hope,we can go back home victories and celebrate.”
