Two Bahrainis jailed after chopping off Briton’s fingers

The brothers were jailed after they chopped two fingers off a Briton,they attacked with a sword and robbed.

A Bahraini court today jailed two brothers for 10 years and six months respectively after they chopped two fingers off a Briton whom they attacked with a sword and robbed,a lawyer said.

The court found that the fingerprints of one of the brothers were found inside the victim’s car,and traces of the assailant’s blood were on the handle of the sword used in the attack,the lawyer said,requesting anonymity.

The attack took place in February,when the Briton got lost and entered the Shiite village of Karana,west of the capital Manama,where the two brothers stopped him and dragged him out of his car which they eventually stole,the interior

ministry announced at the time of the attack.

“One of them attacked him with a sharp object — a sword,and they stole his car and ran away,” the ministry said. The two were arrested a few days later.

The attack does not appear to be related to general political unrest in the country.

Shiite-led protests against the ruling Sunni Al-Khalifa family are still staged frequently in villages despite a government crackdown in March last year.
