Even though he saw the team through the Olympic qualifiers,India coach Michael Nobbs knows his real test starts now, against much higher-ranked teams. After the 3-0 defeat to Australia at the Olympics venue at London on Wednesday, the coach admitted that the team still had a long way to go but added that his boys were on the right track.

“We played really well. Three silly mistakes did us in but we really did well,” Nobbs told The Indian Express. “I was pleased with our style and patterns. We stuck to our game plan for nearly the entire duration of the game. I must say it was great that we did not have any fitness issues.”

In fact, fitness has been Nobbs’ biggest concern since the time he signed as India’s national coach. But with the team holding their own against the immensely athletic team like Australia, that too on a slow and sluggish turf, the coach was elated. “It was a pretty good Australian side, even though they didn’t have Jamie Dwyer. Also,it is mighty cold here and it is impressive the way the team has been going about with the games without any complaints.”
