It is difficult to choose five moments from the glorious career of Sachin Tendulkar. And while he still goes strong, here is our pick of the very special ones.
The World Cup run
After unsuccessful attempts in 1996,1999,2003 and 2007,Sachin Tendulkar fulfilled his dream of winning the World Cup in 2011 as MS Dhoni-led India won the ICC World Cup for the second time. What an emotional moment it was for Sachin, playing in front of his family and home crowd, when he took the victory lap with his teammates. Young Virat Kohli when asked about carrying Sachin on their shoulders said,”He has carried the burden of the team for more than two decades.”
Sachin Tendulkar has enjoyed a lot of success at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The special one still remains his 241 (not out) against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,2003/04. The little master had an ordinary series and with his back to the wall, compiled a brilliant double century to help India draw the fourth Test and the series. Australian spectators missed Sachin’s magic in the first three Tests as the right-hander failed to make an impression, but as they say,’he reserved the best for the last’.
The Hero Cup moment
The little master was entrusted with the responsibility of bowling the last over in the the Hero Cup match against South Africa. After a long discussion between Kapil Dev,Ajay Jadeja,Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin, decision was made and Sachin had to defend only seven. The little master defended the total and guided India to the finals.
Love for neighbours
Sachin has always come good against arch-rivals Pakistan. One such instance where the master led from the front was in the 2003 World Cup match where he was a man on a mission. Facing a formidable bowling unit with the likes of Wasim Akram,Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar was always a challenge. Sachin was up for the task and put India on track for the 274-run target. His six over third-man remains the moment of the match. The right-hander fell short of yet another century, but did all the hard work before he made the long walk back.
175 against Australia
India were set to chase a mammoth 351 in the fifth ODI of the five-match ODI series in Hyderabad. No one gave India any chance of chasing down the total, but Sachin had other plans. The master blaster took the attack to the opposition and scored runs at healthy rate to keep his side’s hopes alive. Wickets kept tumbling from the other end,but Sachin was flowing like a river from the other end. He was unstoppable and scored 19 boundaries and 4 sixes in the 141-ball 175. After doing all the hard work,Sachin couldn’t deliver the final punch and India fell short by 3 runs. What a sensational knock it was. True class.
