Virat Kohli has for long been seen as a future captain of the Indian team. In the absence of the rested Mahendra Singh Dhoni,he displayed his credentials while leading India to a 5-0 One Day International series win in Zimbabwe. Speaking at a promotional event here on Monday, the Delhi batsman said that he enjoys the additional responsibility that captaincy brings. Excerpts:

Where do you see yourself in the next one year?

I never plan things (that way). I will not be able to tell what will happen in the next one year.

You are are often seen talking to yourself on the field? What is it that’s going on in your mind?

(Smiles) I never say anything to my team. It is just that sometimes I am frustrated with myself when I think I that ball could have been stopped if I had set my field correctly or,while batting,if I feel I’ve made an error in judging a delivery.

Your body language on the field is also quite aggressive.

I am trying to control my aggression on the field. I am trying to put it to better use in my game.

How has the responsibility of leading the team changed you as a cricketer, particularly as a batsman?

I did not have to change myself much as a batsman. Batting is also a matter of responsibility and I have always loved to take it. When I take the responsibility of captaincy then it is a big change as you have to look after things after each and every ball and after every over. There is much more responsibility on you then.

Apart from Dhoni and yourself, whom do you see as contenders to lead India?

I enjoyed being given the captaincy (during the West Indies and Zimbabwe tours) and I like to lead the team. (However),there are players in the team such as Rohit Sharma,Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik (who have the required qualities).

What are your thoughts about the upcoming tour of South Africa

The tour will be very important. The team is in great form and we need to maintain it. We need to start preparing from the series against Australia in India itself.

How to you feel when you are compared to Ricky Ponting?

Many people have said so and it is nice to be compared to a player like Ponting.
