
On Monday,January 16,the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards will acknowledge and applaud the best in print and broadcast journalism. Vice-President Hamid Ansari will present the Awards at New Delhis Taj Palace Hotel.
The Express Group introduced the Awards in 2006,the centenary year of its founder Ramnath Goenka. The Awards,the most prestigious and coveted honour in Indian journalism,celebrate the stories that made a genuine difference,and felicitate those behind them. The Awards stand for the highest standards of honesty,rigour and ethics in reporting,values that are an integral part of the philosophy and practice of The Express Group.
The Ramnath Goenka Journalist of the Year Award,carrying a prize of Rs 2.5 lakh,will be given to the outstanding media personality in separate print and electronic journalism categories. Winners in other categories will get a prize of Rs 1 lakh each.
The Express Group will also release two books on the occasion a collection of reports that won the Fourth Ramnath Goenka Awards for Excellence in Journalism,and Reforms 2020,a rare biography of a resurgent India,written by some of our finest thinkers and analysts.
The Awards presentation ceremony will be followed by a panel discussion titled The majority of media people are of poor intellectual level,which takes off from a recent comment by Press Council of India chairman Justice Markandey Katju.
