Sri Lanka A upset Pakistan by 15 runs in the warm-up one day match at the Welagedara Stadium at Kurunegala on Monday. Sri Lanka As Mahela Udawatte (161) and Chamara Kapugedera (101) were involved in a 222-run stand for the fourth wicket in the solitary practice match prior to the five-match ODI series.
Chasing a mammoth 349 for victory in the allotted 50 overs,Umar Akmals unbeaten 103 went in vain as he ran out of partners,as the hosts picked up wickets at the other end at regular intervals. Fawad Alam (85) and Abdul Razzaq (56) ably supported Akmal to keep Pakistan in the hunt.
Earlier, the hosts found themselves in trouble immediately after Thilina Kandamby leading the Sri Lanka A side opted to bat. Abdul Razzaq was on a hat-trick after the first two balls of the match, dismissing both Upul Tharanga (0) and Kaushal Silva (0) to catches by Fawad Alam.
Facing disaster with the scoreboard reading 0/2,skipper Kandamby (59) stitched a 114-run partnership for the third wicket with Udawatte, before being dismissed by Naved-ul-Hasan Rana resuming national duty for the first time since quitting the ICL league. Razzaq was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, claiming four scalps for 70 runs in 9 overs.
