As the championship heads into the flyaway leg of the season,a quarter of the grid believed that they have a chance of clinching the title this year.

The current season is shaping up to be one of the most hard fought in Formula 1 history but Niki Lauda believes that it is nothing new.

“All (the seasons) are the same. Always competitive. This (season) is competitive because it is close,” Lauda told F1Pulse.com.

“I once won a championship by half a point difference and lost another one with one point difference,” the Austrian said referring to the 1984 and 1976 seasons respectively. “From this point of view it is always the same. The pressure is on and in the end the best will win.”

Fernando Alonso currently leads the standings in his Ferrari although McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has now emerged as a serious challenger to eat away the advantage. But Lauda reckons the Spaniard might hold on to the edge by the end of the season.

“Alonso is certainly one of the best at the moment. He’s doing a very good job so far. So if he continues he’s in a good position (to win the title),” he said.
