Ankeet Bawne, whose eighth First Class ton took Maharashtra to 488 for six, helped his side to a big 260-run lead over Himachal Pradesh. After making an unbeaten 138 Bawne said that when he came out to bat,he wanted to replicate Francois Du Plessis’ style from the Wanderers Test earlier this week.

“I left everything bowled on the fourth and fifth stump. The focus was to defend, play with a straight bat and not get drawn into playing away from the body,” said the 20-year-old.

Resuming on his overnight score of 76,Bawne quickly raced to 92,flicking and punching the Himachal pacers for crisp boundaries. However, once he got into the nineties,Bawne closed shop, taking 43 balls to move to 99 and then punched one stylishly to bring up his landmark.

Brief score: Himachal Pradesh 228 & 98/1 in 40 overs (P Dogra 41 batting ) vs Maharashtra 488/6 decl in 145 overs (H Khadiwale 92,A Bawne 138 no out ; V Malik 2/71,R Dhawan 2/131).
