Tokyo developer uncorks wine apartments
Tokyo now has a new apartment block with an in-house cellar and a visiting sommelier for wine lovers. The aptly named Wine Apartment in the posh Shibuya district features a temperature- and humidity-controlled room in the basement for 10,000 bottles. Each of the 18 units comes with a wine fridge for 26 bottles and a rack for glasses. Residents can also order food to their apartments and drink their own bottles at the bistro on the first floor of the 10-storey building.
China puffer fish tower causes huff
A Chinese viewing tower in the shape of a giant,copper puffer fish has raised an online huff about the extravagant targets of state investment. Encased in 8,920 copper plates and built at a cost of around 70 million yuan ($11.4 million),the tower on an island in Yangzhong county,eastern Jiangsu province,hovers 15 storeys above ground. Residents have questioned why such impractical and expensive buildings are needed considering Jiangsus local government bodies are the most indebted in the country.
First YouTube music awards launched
The Google Inc-owned company announced Tuesday that Lady Gaga,Eminem and Arcade Fire will perform at the YouTube Music Awards on November 3. The first-time event will take place at Pier 36 in New York City and stream live online. The 90-minute awards show will be hosted by actor Jason Schwartzman and will honour artists and songs that YouTube fans have turned into global hits over the past year. Nominees will be announced October 17 and YouTube users will be responsible for voting.
