Indian junior girls beat Australia 3-2 and clinch the third spot in the Lal Bahadur Shastri four-nation tournament here. Indian keeper Sukhmani Virk denied the Australians three penalty corners in the first half. However,captain Peris Brooke put Australia ahead in the 32nd minute. The hosts earned two successive penalty corners before half time but couldnt convert.
Four minutes into the second half,India leveled through Poonams ground shot off a penalty corner. An unmarked Kate Gilmore took advantage of a defensive lapse to again put the visitors ahead in the 41st minute but India made it 2-2 with Anupa Barla reverse-flicking home after being put through by Goyal inside the striking circle. Barla found the winner,hitting past Australian goalkeeper Joceyln Bartram in the 65th minute.
Meanwhile,Germany won the final by defeating New Zealand 2-1.
