The Indian women’s cricket team may be on a high after beating world champions Australia, but New Zealand all-rounder Sara McGlashan feels her side would prove to be quite a handful for the Jhulan Goswami-led outfit in their World Cup Super Six stage match on Tuesday.

“It is always a well-fought match when you play the Indian girls, and they are similar to us in terms of the pace and spin bowlers they have. Hopefully we will have a really good match on Tuesday,” said Sara, whose brother Peter is part of the men’s team. “India will be a big game. We played and lost to them in the warm-up game and they will be on a high after beating the Aussies,so it will be a matter of making sure we know what we need to do,” the all-rounder added.

New Zealand remained unbeaten during the group stage and Sara said the competition was heating up with an odd upset here and there spicing up the proceedings even more. “It is really good to see how Pakistan have been doing, and the standard of the women’s game is a lot higher. There is a lot more depth as all eight teams can compete against each other. It is good to see the odd upset happening,” she said.

On her family’s cricket connections,Sara said,“It has been a big part of my life and it is something that has been a focus of the schools that I went to as I made sure that I went to sporting schools. Right from the time I was a youngster I have been involved in the game.” On playing cricket with her brother,Sara said,“We did play backyard cricket together, but I’m not sure how much of a go I really got. I would be running around picking up the balls. It wasn’t until I went to primary school that I really started to play and I have played ever since.”

On what it means for a brother and sister to represent their country in cricket,Sara said,“It is very special for the family. I am really pleased for him and for him to take the opportunity. My parents were able to go to Wellington and see him debut, which was good,as a debut is always a special moment,so it was good that they were able to see that. For the other games they were watching on television.”
