The Chappell-Hadlee series has come down to this one game. After New Zealand earned a surprise 2-0 lead, the Australians hurt and upset by their early losses roared back to square two-all. They will now be intent on not wasting this hard-earned position as skipper Ricky Ponting looks to end the Aussie campaign with a trophy.

A back injury has rendered Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke a doubtful starter for the series-deciding game.

However,New Zealand remain surprised and pleased to be in with a chance of winning. No matter what happens in this game, the young side will go home with extra belief after up-ending the hosts in such a dramatic way early in the series. The fast bowlers will have extra responsibility on a friendly surface and must delay Australias opening batting charges if they are to have a chance of lifting the trophy they last won two seasons ago.

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori believes his team can wrap it on Friday to take home the trophy. I dont think many people would have put us in this situation, but from where we have come, from 2-0 up,if we went on to lose,I would be disappointed.

It was steamy and muggy as the teams trained on Thursday.
