Ian Bell eager for comeback but not at KP’s expense

Ian Bell is desperate to be back in the England team but the dour Warwickshire batsman doesn't want it at Kevin Pietersen's expense.

Ian Bell is desperate to be back in the England team but the dour Warwickshire batsman doesn’t want it at Kevin Pietersen’s expense and would be happy to wait if the injured right-hander recovers in time for the third Ashes Test against Australia.

Bell last played for England in February against the West Indies and could be back in the side if Pietersen is deemed unfit for the third Test starting next Thursday due to an Achilles heel.

“I know this might sound strange but I want Kevin to be playing for England. He is our number one batsman and, being the professional I know he is,I am sure he is desperate to play through the series if he possibly can,” Bell said.

“But if his injury proves beyond him, then I am just as desperate to play. Having faced the Aussies before I know what to expect from them, and once you have appeared at Test level you want to carry on playing against the best players in the world,” he was quoted as saying by ‘The Guardian’.

Bell said despite not being a part of the English team,he is in touch with most of the players. “I got some texts from the lads at Lord’s after England had won and that made me still feel part of the international set-up,” Bell said.
