Holidaying in the hill station of Mussoorie, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar spent about half-an-hour at his preferred food stall in the town, the quaint Tip Top Shop in Lal Tibba,on Thursday morning. The highest point in Mussoorie, this area is known locally as Char Dukan as there are just four shops here.
Vipin Prakash had already made arrangements to serve the favourite food items of his must illustrious customer. Nepalese Noodles is his favourite.
But this time he demanded Bun Makkhan and Masala tea,” said Prakash, who has been serving the famour Mumbaikar for the past three years. Tendulkar and friends spent half-an-hour at the stall.
Sachin has been a frequent visitor to Mussoorie, where he stays stays at his friend Sanjay Narangs residence which is near the shop. Vipin says the cricketer is now like family to him.
I am a fan of Sachin as a good human being. Despite his high stature,he spends his time at my shop like any Aaam Aadmi (common man), Vipin said, showing a Mumbai Indians jacket gifted to him last year.
Besides there are several photographs of Sachin in his shop. “Sachin was curious about my Masala tea recipe. I told him it had fresh ginger, honey and lemon. He appreciated my tea, he added.
Anjali had come yesterday evening. I think she has not brought her children due to the extreme cold here, he added.
Sure that Sachin will come this time too,Vipin had purchased new crockery for the shop. After the announcement of his retirement,I was sure Mussoorie would be his first destination,” he said, adding that he wanted Sachin to spend more time here in future.
Tendulkar never pays money to Vipin directly. Businessman Sanjay Narangs men come and clear the dues every month. His other guests too visit my shop once in a while,” he clarified.
Locals make a beeline for the shop when Sachin is in town, hoping to be clicked with their hero. “There is one condition. Sachin does not want to be photographed while eating, Vipin said. But fans don’t trouble him in Mussourie and he gets to spend his time in peace.
He is a very simple man despite being a big personality. He enters my shop and looks at all items displayed like any other customer, Vipin added.
Tendulkar, who reached the hill station in Uttarakhand days after his retirement,is expected to spend five days here this time.
