Hasim Amla becomes quickest batsman to score 3,000 ODI runs

Amla reaches landmark in 57 innings compared to 69 taken by West Indies legend Viv Richards.

South Africa’s Hashim Amla became the fastest player to 3,000 one-day international runs during the course of his 150 that set up the Proteas’ 80-run win over England at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Amla’s brilliant 124-ball knock yesterday,featuring 16 fours,saw him reach the landmark in 57 innings compared to the 69 it took West Indies’ Vivian Richards,one of cricket’s all-time great batsmen.

He is the third South African in a top 10 that also includes current Proteas’ coach Gary Kirsten.
