India’s Under-18 men’s basketball team is all set to compete against Bangladesh,Sri Lanka and Nepal in the qualifying matches for a spot in the 22nd FIBA Asia U-18 Team Championship to be held in Ulaanbaatar,Mongolia from August 17 to 26.
The qualifying matches,which started here today,would end on February 26 and will be played here at Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium.
India’s senior men’s coach Kenny Natt said,”I look forward to encouraging the growth of this talent pool of young Indian basketball players as they compete internationally and successfully represent India on the world stage.”
The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) spokesperson hoped that hosting such competition would increase basketball awareness in the country.
“It’s an honor to host the Qualifying Round for the Middle Asia Zone and we welcome the teams who have come to participate. We hope that hosting such events will increase basketball awareness around the country and develop national pride in the sport.”

Feb 24: Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka,India vs Nepal.
Feb 25: Sri Lanka vs Nepal,India vs Bangladesh.
Feb 26: Nepal vs Bangladesh,Sri Lanka vs India.
