East Bengal held goalless

East Bengal’s newly-appointed coach Subhas Bhowmick had said he was hoping for at least 28 points from 11 matches in the second phase of the I-League.

East Bengal’s newly-appointed coach Subhas Bhowmick had said he was hoping for at least 28 points from 11 matches in the second phase of the I-League. He will perhaps reassess his target after Saturday’s match against Chirag United at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

That East Bengal couldn’t score and settled for a goalless draw against a side that missed two of their best players upfront ought to be a serious cause of concern for Bhowmick. With striker Muritala Ali and left-winger Snehashis Chakrabarty playing,Chirag might have even won the match.

“I got only 40 per cent (of what I expected) from the players. I’m sure they will improve in the matches to come,” Bhowmick said.

Sunil Chhetri had an ordinary game for East Bengal. His strike partner Yusif Yakubu, didn’t impress either. Both East Bengal and Chirag moved to 13 points from 12 matches.
